University of Maryland Awards Arielle Emmett Merrill Fellowship to Complete Doctorate in Journalism and Public Communication

College Park, MD, August 2007. Arielle Emmett has been awarded the Eleanor Merrill Fellowship at the University of Maryland College Park to complete her doctorate in journalism and public communication. She will pursue her studies at University of Maryland's Philip Merrill College of Journalism, one of the leading journalism graduate programs in the country.

   With her fellowship appointment, Ms. Emmett will assist renowned newspaper editor Eugene Roberts, author of The Pulitzer Prize winning book, The Race Beat, in teaching two journalism classes: The Press & Civil Rights & Complex Writing.

   Accepting the three-year appointment beginning August 2007, Ms. Emmett will continue her studies of New Media, publications design, gender issues, and Media & Society. She will be residing in both College Park and Philadelphia, and can be reached at arielleemmett@rcn.com or aemmett@jmail.umd.edu.
